Cette édition exceptionnelle comprend un recueil d’œuvres pour piano de compositeurs chinois de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle. Elle est marquée tant par des influences occidentales que par les multiples facettes de la musique populaire chinoise. La diversité des œuvres proposées va de la courte pièce de caractère à la sonatine, de l’arrangement de chanson le plus simple au cycle en plusieurs parties. Ces œuvres de niveau intermédiaire offrent un éventail représentatif d’un univers musical encore largement inconnu en Europe. Relevant d’influences essentiellement pentatoniques, ces œuvres allient la magie de la musique extrême-orientale à la sonorité du piano. Le choix en a été assuré par la célèbre pianiste de Shanghaï Jingxian («Jane») Xie, qui intègre fréquemment ces compositions au programme de ses concerts. Elle en indique non seulement les doigtés, mais propose également, en introduction, un large aperçu de la musique chinoise moderne pour piano ainsi que des explications relatives à chacun des morceaux.
